Biography
The Los Angeles-based graffiti artist Alec Monopoly is noted for his subversive appropriation of iconic pop figures and distinctive representation of the Monopoly board game mascot image. The artist satirically merges Pop Art with cultural critique and social commentary by merging components of the game's characters with financially catastrophic newspaper clippings. Monopoly exposes flaws with bureaucratic hierarchies and the American collective consciousness by using the urban surroundings of New York City, Los Angeles, and London as his canvas.
