Biography

Petra Kaltenbach is an artist, video and graphic designer, and curator. Born in 1962 in Duisburg, Germany, she began her career as a graphic designer and served as managing director and partner of an advertising agency from 1991 to 2002. In 2004, she moved to Dubai, where she witnessed the city’s rapid urban transformation. Since 2015, she has devoted herself entirely to art, combining painting with technologies such as QR codes and NFTs.

In 2016, she was nominated for the International Emerging Artist Award, and in 2018, her video art was displayed on the façade of the Burj Khalifa. That same year, she was recognized as the best UAE-resident artist at World Art Dubai. Canon supported her through a one-year sponsorship, and she continues to collaborate with the company on UV printing technology. Since 2019, she has been part of the curatorial team at World Art Dubai.

The central theme of her work is transformation. She explores how people can break free from mental structures and find freedom. In a digitized world that often creates uncertainty, she incorporates structures and patterns to convey stability and a sense of belonging. Her symbol of transformation is the pomegranate, representing love, beauty, health, and wealth.

Technology plays a vital role in her art: she integrates QR codes, augmented reality, and UV printing to create interactive, multi-layered works. Her NFT series NFT_LOVE LETTERS merges physical and digital art into visual love poems. She also works with mirrored stainless steel to introduce layers of reflection and shift perspectives. In collaboration with the fashion brand ROXX-Fashion, she has created wearable art under the project The Couture of Art.
