Taró’s works are internationally known for their unique fusion of traditional and contemporary elements. With deep respect for his cultural heritage, he creates art that is universally appealing and deeply personal.
Taró Nordberg is a renowned fourth-generation Sumi-e painter and calligrapher, hailing from a respected calligraphy family in Kyoto, Japan. Inspired by his grandfather and uncles—whose works adorn major temples like Kiyomizu and Fushimi Inari—his creative output is deeply shaped by these familial roots.
Collaborating with Kobaien, a prestigious ink manufacturer in Nara, Taró blends traditional heritage with innovative approaches. As the son of a Japanese mother and a Swiss father, he fuses Eastern and Western influences in what he calls "nouveau japonisme."
His art reflects a profound connection to nature and music, drawing inspiration from life’s complexities and the human spirit’s constant transformation. "If time is music, then space is art," Taró says. "I paint to create balance between these elements and enrich our existence through precious moments."
