Ceres is the Roman goddess of agriculture, fertility and harvest and in Roman mythology represents maternal love, the cycles of life and the deep connection to nature.
She embodies the nurturing and protective power of Mother Earth, which ensures growth and renewal. The story of Ceres is one of loss and grief, but also of hope and new beginnings.
She was the daughter of Saturn and Opus and the Roman counterpart of the Greek goddess Demeter. Ceres is best known for her passionate search for her daughter Proserpina, who had been abducted into the underworld by Pluto. This story symbolizes the changing seasons. Just as Ceres brought her daughter back from the underworld, so too does life always return after winter.
This interpretation depicts Ceres as a mysterious and elegant woman, subtly capturing her ambivalence and reminding us of the cycles of life and nature. The four sides of the square represent both the four seasons and the hard physical labor associated with agriculture to preserve nature's bounty.
