Inspired by the life of the poet Emily Dickinson
This work captures the spirit of one of the most enigmatic women in literary history. Emily Dickinson, who in her later years wore almost exclusively white and rarely left the silence of her home for decades, becomes here a symbol of the conflict between visibility and withdrawal.
The bright strip of light in front of the figure seems like a path outward—an ascent toward the publication of her brilliant works, toward fame and society. It is a clear path into the light. But Emily hesitates. Her strength lies hidden, in the silence of her room and the protective shadows. In her white dress, she stands like a novice on the threshold, while her heart yearns to return to the safety of anonymity. She does not look toward the light; she remains in dialogue with the darkness.
“Emily” is a tribute to all those whose greatest strength lies hidden and who know that you don’t have to be in the spotlight to shine.
