Japanese ink and mixed media on an unusual support: original production paper from the set of Japanese director Hirokazu Koreeda in Kyoto. The work is part of a nine-part series created on so-called "scene charts," on which complex film scenes were sketched or described. It's no coincidence that all the works in this series look somewhat "worn"—they literally were. On a motorcycle across Japan and by bus through Mexico.
This particular piece of paper came into Taró Nordberg's possession semi-officially – following an evening spent drinking sake and reminiscing at the university that both the artist and Koreeda once attended. A gesture that oscillates between nostalgia and subtle appropriation – typical of Taró's subversive yet respectful approach to cultural material.
