Flemish floral still lifes of the Baroque period served multiple purposes: they signified bourgeois status and refinement, they were objects of beauty that celebrated nature – but at the same time, they were memento mori. The flowers depicted were already dead, destined for decay, and the insects crawling among them lived only briefly. And yet, they “live” on. Beauty and death, in the worldview of the 17th century, were apparently inseparable.

The Infinity Mirror series brings both together – in a black void, these beautiful forms of the past emerge, overlap, and transform, reflecting centuries of meanings that accumulate and fade away with each new perspective. Everything changes with every gaze – not least the beholder themselves. That is one of the conditions of being.
