Sibylle

This image is inspired by the ancient legend of the Cumaean Sibyl. She was the guardian of hidden knowledge who once confronted the Roman king with the words: "I do not offer you what you want to hear. I offer you what will happen." When he refused the high price for her nine books full of prophecies, she burned six of them before his eyes until the king finally acquired the last three volumes with awe.

In this depiction, the sharply focused beam of light symbolizes her incomprehensible foresight, which accurately pierces the darkness of the unknown. While her silhouette mysteriously blurs in the background – a sign of her timelessness and mystical origin – she holds the knowledge of the world firmly and resolutely in her hands. This image is an homage to the power of knowledge, which has its price – and to a woman who preferred darkness to see the light of truth more clearly.
