Southern Accent is an homage to the wild beaches of North Florida, where Andy took his first steps as a toddler and later learned how to read and surf waves. Just a mile or two north of where he spent his summers, Tom Petty kept a beach house—a quiet retreat for the legendary musician. Though Andy never met Petty, songs like Southern Accents have always resonated deeply with him and continue to inspire his art.
This piece captures the feeling music evokes—the vast wilderness of the Atlantic shoreline, a place seemingly lost in time. It represents a peaceful state of mind where power and tranquility coexist. Perhaps it’s the shared roots with Petty, the simple rhythm of a quite rural collage town—or maybe was there something in the water?
